3.5.1.3 Cab protector. A cab protector to provide protection from falling objects shall be
provided. The cab protector framing shall be covered with expanded sheet steel, of not less than
9 gage (3.793 mm) (0.1495 inch) prior to expansion, and not less than 2290 mm (90 inches) in
width. The cab protector shall cover the cab roof, fenders, and vehicle hood. Sufficient space
shall be provided above the cab roof to allow for vehicle cleaning and maintenance.
* 3.5.2 Body mounting. A sub frame shall be provided. The turntable pedestal, outriggers and
subframe shall be one integral welded or bolted (or a combination of the two) assembly. The
subframe shall conform to the following:
When two outriggers are required or torsion bar stabilizers are required:
(a)  The cabinet-loadspace floor mounting shall conform to 3.5.2.2 through 3.5.2.2.3 and
the subframe length shall be at least sufficient to evenly distribute the pedestal and
outrigger loads on the chassis frame rails or:
(b)  The cabinet-loadspace floor mounting shall conform to 3.5.2.3 and the sub frame shall
be the full length of the chassis frame to the rear of the cab.
When four outriggers are required:
(a)  The cabinet-loadspace floor mounting shall conform to 3.5.2.2 through 3.5.2.2.3 or to
3.5.2.3, both with a subframe the full length of the chassis frame to the rear of the cab.
3.5.2.1 No welding of chassis frame. No part of the body (cabinets, floor, turntable pedestal,
outriggers or subframe) shall be welded to the chassis frame.
3.5.2.2 Flexible mounting for cabinet-floor assembly. The cabinets and the loadspace floor
shall be an integral assembly, secured independently of the turntable pedestal and the outriggers
to the chassis frame or to the subframe with U-bolts, twin studs or brackets and shall include a
wood breaker strip. All but the rearmost cabinet-floor assembly mountings shall be spring
loaded to provide for movement of the cabinet floor assembly independent of the subframe,
chassis frame, turntable pedestal, and outriggers.
3.5.2.2.1 U-bolts or twin studs. When U-bolts or twin studs are used for mounting the
cabinet-floor assembly, there shall, be not less than four U-bolts or twin studs per aide having a
14 mm (0.563 inch) minimum body diameter with a 16 mm (0.625 inch) minimum thread
diameter. Tie-plates shall be at least 13 mm (0.5 inch) thick. The vehicle chassis frame and the
subframe shall be braced, using wood blocks, at each mounting point unless the mounting point
is located at a full depth crossmember. Blocks shall incorporate a keeper strap or groove for the
