MIL-T-62518A
3.5.5.3.1 Receptacles. The generator shall be equipped with two receptacles: one U-ground,
120-volt, 30-ampere and one three-wire, twist-lock type, 240-volt, 15-ampere.
3.5.5.3.2 Engine for generator. The engine for the generator shall be an air cooled,
four cycle, magneto ignition gasoline engine having not less than 5.2 kW (7 horsepower). The
engine fuel tank shall have a capacity of not less than 3.78 L (one gallon). The fuel tank shall
have a drain and an inlet valve to the engine.
*  3.6 Aerial tower. Aerial tower structural components shall have a calculated design stress
not greater than that allowed by ANSI A92.2. The aerial device shall be designed and
constructed in its entirety in accordance with ANSI A92.2.
3.6.1 Turntable. The turntable assembly shall be rotated by a hydraulically operated motor.
The turntable shall be so constructed as to eliminate all side thrusts on the motor shaft.
*  3.6.2 Fiberglass reinforced plastic. Fiberglass booms, basket(s) and components shall
consist of extruded, molded, or spiral wound fiberglass. Each component shall conform to the
performance requirements for electrical insulation specified herein. All components shall be
made from a combination of multiple layers of sterile electrical grade fiberglass roving cloth,
mat or strands with high impact strength resins with weathering and fire-retardant characteristics.
The insulated booms shall have a hard, smooth surface inside and outside to prevent
contamination and to preserve dielectric characteristics. When gelcoat is applied, the thickness
of the gelcoat shall be not less than 0.16 mm (0.006 inch) and not more than 0.76 mm
(0.030 inch). The parts shall be free from uncured areas, gaps, cracks, holes, blisters, fuzzy
surfaces, resin pockets, areas lacking resin, laps, wrinkles, delamination, air or gas pockets,
patches, porosity and other similar defects. The entire surface shall be smooth, fully cured and
free of tackiness. Percentage of glass by weight shall be approximately uniform. The plastic
construction insulation shall meet or exceed the specified performance requirements in 3.6.3.
*  3.6.3 Dielectric properties. The complete aerial platform (aerial device) shall conform to
and shall pass the design, quality assurance and qualification tests required for a category A or
category B aerial device rated at 69 kV in accordance with ANSl A92.2, without exceeding the
maximum allowable boom currents specified in ANSI A92.2 for a 69 kV rating. Any
mechanism within or along the insulated boom(s) shall be made of insulating materials, or so
insulated as to demonstrate the same dielectric properties as the boom(s).
