4.4.3 Testing. Testing is described in the First Article and Quality
Conformance Inspection tables.
4.4.4 Inspection equipment. The inspection equipment required to perrorm
the inspections and tests prescribed in this specification is identified in
the "Paragraph Reference/Inspection method" column in the tables starting with
paragraph 4.4.2.1, and the test method paragraphs (See 4.5). The contractor
shall submit for approval inspection equipment designs in accordance with the
terms of the contract. See 6.3 herein.
4.5 Methods of inspection.
4.5.1 Salt spray test. Samples shall be seleted from each protective
finished lot and subjected to the salt spray test in accordance with the
procedures specified in ASTM B 117. Unless otherwise specified on the
applicable drawing the minimum exposure time shall be one and one half (1 1/2)
hours using a 5% sodium chloride solution. rejection shall be in accordance
with the applicable protective finish specification.
4.5.2 Hardness. Samples shall be selected from each heat treatment batch
(see Note) and subjected to this test. If any part fails to comply with the
requirement specified on the applicable drawing, the part shall be classed
defective. The hardness test shall be performed in accordance with the
procedure specified in ASTM E 18. Each heat treat batch shall remain
segregated wuntil completion of all hardness tests.
Note: A heat-treatment batch shall be defined as parts that have been
heat-treated at the same time in the same furnace and quench batch for each of
all phases of the entire heat-treatment process.
4.5.3 Dialectic withstanding voltage. The terminal insulated shall be
tested for compliance with the dialectic withstanding voltage requirement as
specified on drawing C11830496 Note 3. Test equipment and procedures shall be
satisfactory to the contracting officer. (see 4.4.4)
4.5.4 Electrical requirements. The part of assembly shall be subjected
to the electrical tests in order to determine conformance to the electrical
characteristics specified on the applicable drawing. Test equipment and
procedures shall be satisfactory to the contracting agency. If any part or
assembly fails to comply with any specified electric requirement, it shall be
classed defective and rejected. Items subjected to cold and hot temperature
conditioning shall be conditioned for not less than 24 hours. Temperature
tolerance shall be + 3F.
