3.16 Lubrication.  All surfaces requiring lubrication shall be lubricated
by the internal oil reservoir.
3.17 Identification markinq.  The tamper shall be identified in accordance
with MIL-STD-130.  The required marking shall be applied directly to the
housing surface by metal stamp or forging.
3.18 Treatment end painting  The portions of the tamper and its compo-
nents and parts normally painted shall be cleaned, treated, and painted in
accordance with MIL-T-704, Type A, color as specified.
3.19 Chest.  When specified (see 6.2), a chest made of steal not less
than 0.071 inch in thickness shall be famished and shall be of a size to
hold the maintenance tools, tamper, and repair parts specified herein. The
chest lid shall be secured to one edge of a side by a continuous hinge ex-
tending the full length of the chest edge. The hinge shall conform tO
MS35829-7C .  The lid shall be held in the closed position by not less than
two hook-type tension latches with strikers bolted or riveted to the chest
and to the lid.  A hasp shall be provided to secure the lid to the chest and
accomodate a lock conforming to MS35647. Two lifing handles conforming to
MS35793 shall be provided, one located at each end of the chest. The lid
shall remain in the fully open position by the weight of the lid or by hold-
ing devices.
3.20 Workmanship. The tamper shall be free of defects such as galvanic
action resulting from contact of dissimilar metals, rust, cracks, , and other
defects that could impair its operation or serviceability. All parts, com-
ponents, and assemblies of the tamper including castings, forgings, molded
parts, stampings, bearings, seals, and machined surfaces shall be clean and
free from  sand, dirt, fins, pits, sprues, scale, and other harmful or extra-
neous materials. All edges shall be rounded or beveled.
4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS
4.1 Responsibility for inspection.  Unless otherwise specified in the
contract or purchase order, the supplier is responsible for the performance
of all inspection requirements as specified herein. l  Except as otherwise
specified in the contract or order, the supplier may use his own or any
other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements
specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government re-
serves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specifi-
cation where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and
services conform to prescribed requirements.
