6. NOTES
(This section contains information of a general or explanatory nature that maybe helpful, but is not
mandatory.)
6.1 Intended use. The valve covered by this specification is intended for use in connection with a pressure
demand oxygen regulator, or any other regulator which will supply oxygen to the user in such a manner a at
altitudes above approximately 28,000 feet, a higher intrathoracic pressure than that of the ambient air is
continually maintained. It is intended to be inserted into the expiratory chamber of an oxygen mask. A light check
valve is incorporated within the valve. This check valve opens during inhalation, thus allowing the pressure in the
inlet tubing and facepiece of the mask to equalize. Upon exhalation the check valve closes, and the slight excess
of pressure in the facepiece over the inlet line pressure causes the exhalation valve to open.
6.2 Acquisition retirements. Acquisition documents must specify the following:
a. Title, number, and date of the specification.
b. ISSUE of DODISS to be cited in the solicitation, and if required, the specific issue of individual documents

is dial to these requirements, and manufacturers are urged to arrange to have the products that they propose to
offer to the Government tested for qualification in order that they maybe eligible to be awarded contracts or
purchase orders for the products covered by this specification. The activity responsible for the Qualified Products

information pertaining to qualification Of products may be obtained from that activity.
