MIL-V-62008B(AT)
4.5.1.40.7 Simultaneous use of power and manual control tests. To determine
conformance to 3.6.13.5, the gun shall be elevated and depressed by power while traversing the
turret with the manual controls. The gun shall be elevated and depressed by manual control
while traversing the turret with power control. The elevation and traverse power switch shall be
turned on and off not less than three times and the gun observed for movement.
4.5.1.40.8 Override control test. To determine conformance to 3.6.13.6, the override
control switch shall be operated as specified and the control and movement of the gun observed.
The commander override switch shall not be reactivated at intervals or less than 10 seconds.
4.5.1.40.9 Control system dead spot test. To determine conformance to 3.6.13.7, gunner
and commander control handles shall be operated as specified and deflection of the handles to
initiate movement of gun shall be measured with inspection equipment. When measuring the
dead spot angle, the control handles shall not be moved toward the neutral center once the gun
and turret have begun to move.
4.5.1.40.10 Gun elevation speed test. To determine conformance to 3.6.13.8, the gun
shall be elevated and depressed at specified speeds by use of the gunner and commander power
controls and the gun speed measured for maximum and minimum conformance. Observe the
gun speed control at any rate between minimum and maximum speed.
4.5.1.40.11 Turret traversing speed test. To determine conformance to 3.6.13.9, by use
of gunner and commander power controls, the turret shall be traversed clockwise and
counterclockwise as specified, and minimum and maximum speeds shall be measured. Observe
the turret speed control at any rate between minimum and maximum speed. The accumulator
shall be fully charged prior to beginning the maximum speed test. Maximum traverse speed
shall be determined by measuring time for the turret to complete 1 revolution from a standing
point.
4.5.1.40.12 Main gun stability. To determine conformance to 3.6.13.10, the following
test shall be performed with the vehicle nose down on a 15 slope, main gun horizontal, and 90
to the vehicle front to rear axis, turret power switch on, and engine inoperative:
a. Using the gunner telescope and manual elevation handle, aline the main gun
on a target within 1 of horizontal.
b. Install a magnetic base dial indicator with a minimum 1 inch range on the
turret roof and set it at a predetermined point on the gun breech.
c. Install a similar indicator on the race ring and set it at a predetermined point
on the race ring gear.
d. Using the telescope and power control handle, depress and traverse the gun at
least 15 mils off-target (without overloading either indicator) and then return
the gun to the original target (a) without overshoot.
