MIL-V-62008B(AT)
d. If necessary, sight reticle (excluding boresight knob backlash) shall be
realigned "dead-on" aiming point by use of elevation boresight knobs.
Elevation boresight knob micrometer scale shall be used.
e. The difference in reading between b and d above shall not exceed the
tolerance specified.
f. Backlash shall be checked at gun positions of approximately 0, 5, 10, and
15 elevations.
4.5.1.41.3 Boresight knob travel test. To determine conformance to 3.6.14.3 after
confirming that synchronization requirements have been met, boresight knob travel shall be
tested from the positions established in 4.5.1.41.1.1.
4.5.1.41.4 Leveling device tests. To determine conformance to 3.6.16.3, the gun shall be
leveled at 0 elevation as indicated by the level on the alignment telescope adaptor positioned in
the gun chamber. The leveling device on the ballistic drive shall be observed for accuracy.
4.5.1.41.5 Elevation quadrant M13A3 test. To determine conformance to 3.6.16.1, with
the turret in a level position using the M1A1 calibrated gunner quadrant on the breech pads, the
gun shall be elevated on 355 mils. The reading on the elevation quadrant M13A3 shall not
exceed that specified. The procedure shall be repeated with the gun at a depression of 124 mils.
4.5.1.42 Cupola test.
4.5.1.42.1 Cupola slip ring contact board test. To determine conformance to 3.6.15.1,
the slip ring contact boards shall be checked for vertical adjustment with their corresponding
contact spring.
4.5.1.42.2 Cupola slip ring circuit test. To determine conformance to 3.6.15.2, the
current transfer between turret and cupola shall be checked at each of the slip rings. Current as
specified, supplied by the power source, shall be delivered through the slip rings, contacts, and
voltage drop measured. An equivalent electrical load shall be connected in the cupola. The
voltage drop when measured from the turret junction box to the cupola output power connector
and cupola communication receptacle shall not exceed 2 volts during 360 traverse. The
individual slip rings may be wired in series to conduct this check but the voltage drop shall not
exceed a multiple of 2 volts depending on number of circuits simultaneously tested.
4.5.1.42.3 Cupola noise at slip rings. To determine conformance to 3.6.15.3, an audio
generator shall be connected to the turret junction box with one side of the output connected to
slip ring ground circuit. A 100 cycles per second (cps) signal shall be introduced into each ring,
and cupola traversed 360 checking for static in the earphones at the cupola. The individual slip
ring circuits may be wired in series for this check. The communications circuits shall be as
specified.
4.5.1.42.4 Cupola traverse and elevation effort. To determine conformance to 3.6.15.4
through 3.6.15.6 each cupola azimuth gear box handwheel and screwjack handle shall be
operated and checked for starting torque.
