MIL-V-62008B(AT)
4.5.1.42 5 Cupola interlock assembly location test. To determine conformance to
3.6.17.5, each vehicle shall be tested concurrently with synchronization tests of 4.5.l.41.1. With
the main gun on its 0 aiming point as in 4.5.1.41.1.1 (c(3)), the cupola interlock shall be
engaged and the alignment of the machine gun line of eight shall be checked using telescope in
an adapter to view the machine gun target on the target stand (figure 3). The vertical cross line
of telescope shall fall within the tolerance bands of the target.
4.5.l.42.6 Cupola machine gun sighting tests. To determine conformance to machine
gun sighting system requirements specified herein, the cupola shall be mounted on a cupola
mounting stand and tested prior to installation on the turret using equipment defined herein.
a. Cupola mounting stands.
b. Synchronization fixture (with M39 target mirror perpendicular to M/G line of
sight).
c. Telescope (M/G line of sight).
d. Telescope Adapter (M/G mount and synchronizer fixture).
e. Reticle projector (beam splitter and beam splitter adaptor).
f. Collimator Fixture.
g. Collimator (M/G line of sight).
h. Collimator (2 req'd) periscope line of sight.
4.5.1.42.6.1 Cupola machine gun synchronization. To determine conformance to
3.6.17.1, synchronization tests shall be performed according to the following procedure:
a. The cupola shall be mounted on the cupola stand and the telescope adaptor
shall be inserted in the machine gun mount.
b. The synchronization fixture shall be attached to the telescope adaptor.
c. One of the periscope heads shall be installed in its mount on the cupola.
d. The periscope body shall be inserted in the periscope head.
e. The reticle projector shall be attached to the periscope eyepiece.
f. Approximate 0 gun position shall be established, laying from low to high.
g. The boresight knobs of the periscope shall be adjusted to autocollimate the
periscope on the mirror of the synchronization fixture and the boresight knob
position shall be recorded.
h. Laying from low to high, the periscope shall be within the synchronization
limits specified in 3.6.17.1.
NOTE: Synchronization error at any gun position shall be measured by noting
the boresight knob movement necessary to superimpose the periscope
reticle on its reflected image from the mirror of the synchronization
fixture.
i. Steps d thru h shall be repeated with the other periscope head installed in the
cupola.
