3.6.12.9 Controls and indicators. The controls and displays for operation of the weapon
station shall be grouped on the control panel, the hand control unit and at other locations in the
turret, providing ready access to the gunner.
3.6.12.9.1 Control panel controls and indicators. The control panel shall contain controls,
self test features, guards and indicators. The indicators shall identify selection and activation of
weapon station functions, and shall display performance status.
3.6.12.9.2 Hand controller. The weapon station hand controller shall enable gunner to
control weapon station azimuth, missile launcher elevation, missile firing and optical sight
selection.
3.6.12.9.2.1 Dead zone. The minimum control handle rotation from the neutral position to
produce turret motion in either right/left traverse, or in elevation/depression, shall not exceed
4 degrees. The control handle shall return to the neutral position when released at any position
and shall not produce any drift in azimuth/elevation.
3.6.12.9.2.2 Azimuth control. Movement of the control handles clockwise/counterclockwise
shall disclose no indication of binding. Full rotation about the neutral position shall be
35 + 5 degrees in either direction.
3.6.12.9.2.3 Elevation control. Movement of the control handles in elevation/depression
shall disclose no indication of binding. Full rotation about the neutral position shall be
30 + 5 degrees in each direction.
