cross-country course shall have surface irregularities consisting of mounds,
rocks, brush, and irregularities normally found in moss-country or open
terrain. The test drive shall include 20 abrupt starts, 20 sharp left hand
turns, and 20 sharp right hand turns.  At the completion of 500 mile road
test, load the washer with 60 pounds (dry weight) of wool blankets (type I or
II of MIL-B-844) and launder using the program chart or card for wool. The
program shall conform to FM 10-280, Formula II. No detergent is required.
The washer shall process the wool blankets for two consecutive loads at the
rate of two cycles per hair.  Upon completion of this, visually inspect the
control unit, program reading device, interior of the washer cylinder, rotor,
gear box, intake valves, discharge valves, door glass, and frame. Any
nonconformance With 3.6.12 shall Constitute failure of this test.
4.6.14 Rail impact test.  The assembled washer shall be impact tested by
the Government at a specified location (see 6.2). The test shall be in
accordance with the Association of American Railroads (AM), Rail Impact
Procedure as follows :
Forward at 4, 6, and 8 mph.
Rearward at 8 mph.
The unit shall not require any special Peking or tiedown for this test. At
the comletion of the rail impact test, load the washer with 60 pounds (dry
weight) of wool blankets (type I or II of MIL-B-844) and launder using the
program chart or carol for wool.  The program shall conform to FM 10-280,
Formula II.  No detergent is required. The washer shall process the wool
blankets for four consecutive loads at the rate of two cycles per hour. Upon
completion of this, visually inspect the control unit, program reading
device, interior of the washer cylinder, motor, gear box, intake valves,
discharge valves, door glass, and f ram. Any nonconformance with 3.6.13
shall constitute failure of this test.
4.6.15 Leak test.  The high water level control system shall be bypassed
to allow the water level to reach 6 inches above the center of the cylinder
shaft centerline.  sixty pounds of woolens shall be processed using
automatic formula card for FM 10-280, Formula II.  During and after proc-
essing, a visual inspection shall be performed. Any nonconformance With
3.6.14 shall constitute a failure of this test.
5.
PACKAGING
5.1  Preservation.  Preservation shall be level A or Commercial as spec-
i f i e d (see 6.2) in accordance with the applicable requirements of MIL-L-3153.
Packing.  Packing shall be level A, B, or Commercial, as specified
(see 6. 2), in accordance with the applicable requirements of MIL-L-3153 .
In addition to any special marking required by the contract

or purchase order, unit packs and shipping containers shall be marked as
specified in MIL-L-3153.
