6. NOTES
(This section contains information of a general or explanatory nature that
may be helpful, but is not mandatory.)
6.1 Intended use. The trailer mounted washing machine is to provide
laundry washing service for troops and hospitals in the field.
6.2  Acquisition requirements. Acquisition documents must specify the
following :
a.
Title, number, and date of this specif ication.
b.
Issue of DODISS to be cited in the solicitation, and if required,
the specific issue of individual documents referenced (see 2.1.1
and 2.2).
c.
When a first article is required (see 3.1, 4.3, and 6.3).
d.
When moisture and fungus-resistant treatment is required (see
3.5.2.5).
Source and delivery of Government loaned furnished property (see
e.
3.8) Trailer Mounted Laundry Unit, M-85.
Required location of road and terrain test and rail impact test
f.
(see 4.6.13 and 4.6.14).
Levels of preservation and packing (see 5.1 and 5.2).

6.3 First article.  When a first article is required, it shall be
inspected and approved under the appropriate previsions of Federal
Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 52.209-4. The first article should be a
preproduction sample.  The contracting officer should specify the appropriate
type of first article and the number of units to be furnished. The
contracting off icer should also include specific instructions in acquisition
documents regarding arrangements for selection, inspection, and approval of
the first article.
6.3.1 Modif ied first article testing for small documents. When the
Pprocurement is for less than 25 machines and when authorized by the
contracting officer, the first article testing may be modif ied as follows:
a.
Substitute the 20 hour washing test specified in 4.6.7.2 for the
160 hour washing test specified in 4.6.11.
b.
Substitute the 30 mile road test specified in 4.6.12 for the 500 mile
mad test specified in 4.6.13.
c.
Omit the rail impact test specified in 4.6.14. The exercise of any
or all of these options in no way negates the requirements in
3.6.11, 3.6.12, and 3.6.13.

6.3.2 Modified first article testing when washer is
contract.  When the washer is procured as part of a contract for f abrication
of the Army Trailer Mounted Laundry per MIL-L-44142, first article testing
per 4.6.12, 4.6.13 and 4.6.14 would be accomplished as part of the first
article test for the Army Trailer Mounted Laundry.
