and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained.

REQUIREMENTS
*
3.1 Qualification.  The couplings furnished under this specification shall be
products which are authorized by the qualifying activity for listing on the
applicable qualified products list at the time of award of contract (see 4.3,
4.3.1, and 6.4).  In addition, the retention of the qualification for the
couplings on the applicable qualified products list shall be dependent on periodic
verification of continued compliance with the requirements of this specification
(see 4.3 and 4.3.2).
*
3.2 First article.  When specified, the coupling shall be subjected to first
article inspection (see 6.5) in accordance with 4.4.

3.3 Selection of specifications and standards.  Specifications and standards
for necessary commodities and services not specified herein shall be selected in
accordance with MIL-STD-970.

purpose intended.
3.4.1 Metal parts.  All metal parts shall be of a corrosion-resistant
material or treated in a manner to render them adequately resistant to corrosion.
3.4.1.1 Dissimilar metals.  Unless suitably protected against electrolytic
corrosion, dissimilar metals shall not be used in intimate contact with each
other.  Dissimilar metals are defined in MIL-STD-889.
3.4.2 Protective treatment.  When materials are used in the construction of
the couplings that are subject to deterioration when exposed to environmental
conditions likely to occur during service usage, they shall be protected against
such deterioration in a manner that will in no way prevent compliance with the
performance requirements of this specification.  The use of any protective coating
that will crack, chip, or scale with age or extremes of environmental conditions
shall be avoided.
3.5 Design and construction.  The design and construction of the coupling
shall be in accordance with MS2206/3, The outer sleeve of the female coupling half
