5.1.2 Level A.  Each chair and stool shall be packaged within the
carrying case as specified in 4.5.10.  The stool supporting post and adjustment
shaft shall be adequately wrapped and cushioned prior to positioning in the
carrying case.  The carrying case shall be inserted into a 3 mil plastic bag.
Excess air shall be evacuated from the bag and the closure effected by heat
sealing.  As an alternate, the case may be wrapped in waterproof barrier material
conforming to MIL-L-10547.  Closure and sealing shall be as specified in the
appendix of MIL-L-10547.
5.1.3 Level C.  Each unit shall be packaged as specified in 5.1.2 except
that the carrying case shall be packaged in a standard commercial container
of the size and kind commonly used, which will afford the degree of protection
required for shipment and use of the product for its intended purpose.
5.2 Packing.
5.2.1 Level A.  Each unit packaged as specified in 5.1.2 shall be packed in
an exterior container designed for a type 2 load and constructed in accordance
with PPP-B-601, overseas type or PPP-B-640, class 2, style E.  Container shall
include suitable interior fittings to protect exterior hardware and carrying
handles on the carrying case and to prevent movement during shipping and
handling  +
Closure and strapping shall be as specified in the appendix of the
applicable box specification except that the use of steel strapping is not
authorized for fiberboard boxes.
NOTE:  Strapping shall not be required on wood boxes for shipments forwarded
to a receiving activity within the continental limits of the United States for
storage and redistribution.
5.2.2 Level C.  The subject commodity shall be packed in substantial commercial
containers (export when applicable) of the type, size, and kind commonly used
for the purpose, so constructed as to insure acceptance and safe delivery by
common or other carriers, at the lowest rate, to point of delivery called for
in the contract or purchase order.
5.3 Marking. Exterior container shall be marked in accordance with MIL-STD-129.
In addition, marking shall include arrows as specified in 5.4.24 of MIL-STD-129.

Procurement documents should specify the following:
6.1 Ordering data.
(a)
Title, number, and date of this specification.
(b)
Approval of substitution of proprietary components (see 3.3).
(c)
When a first article is required (see 3.3, 4.3 and 6.3).
(d)
Approval of colors and cushioning (see 3.6 and 3.16).
(e)
Selection of applicable levels of packaging and packing (see 5.1 and
5.2).
6.2 Definitions.  The term (see 3.17) as used in this specification shall
be defined as specified herein.
