b. Achieve the weight on the front tow eye of the loaded trailer chassis within the
allowable percent of GVWR range specified in table I of the applicable size
specification sheet. Correctly locate the horizontal center of gravity (CG) of the
payload, from figure 5, forward of the center of the trailer chassis running gear, as
shown in figure 6.
c. By means of punch marks, of sufficient depth to remain visable after painting by the
contractor, mark all equipment skid mounting hole centers on each of the
3-crossmembers to match all of the skids in figure 5. Provide punch marks
symmetrical about the chassis longitudinal centerline. When specified (see 6.2, T-7),
boltholes shall be drilled through all 3-crossmembers for the intended equipment.
d. Provide twin bolted-on, side shear brackets and fasteners to position and secure
equipment payloads, which exceed 3500 pounds weight in accordance with figure 5.
e. Furnish drain areas for operating equipment payloads in accordance with figure 5,
when open bottom skids are furnished. Where clear drain areas are not obtainable,
the intrusion of chassis components shall be subject to approval by the contracting
officer. When platform flooring is required with operating equipment payloads,
provide space for draining coolant, oil, and other sump liquids with a common,
4-gallon-capacity drain pan having a minimum size of 27-inches long by 12-inches
wide by 5-inches high, with push-pull bail type wire handle. Provide drain pan
clearances for manhandling the pan per SAE J925.
f. When and as specified (see 6.2, T-7), the intended operating equipment payload and
accessories shall be prepared for interface between the equipment and chassis and
shall be mounted and secured to withstand all operating and traveling forces without
permanent deformation or damage. When specified, provide the skid as shown in
figures 3 and 5 for equipment payloads which are not skid mounted. The height of
the skid shall be that dimension necessary to provide bolt installation clearances and
the length shall be adequate to span all 3-crossmembers without extending forward
into the towing prime mover during clearance or beyond the rear end of the trailer
chassis more than 25-percent of the minimum or actual bed length, whichever is
longer (total 125 percent of dimension A).
g. Provide trailer chassis and payload dimensions A through F of figures 4 and 6 as cited
in table I of the applicable size specification sheet.
3.12 Trailer chassis specifications. The trailer chassis specifications shall be in accordance
with the applicable size specification sheets and table II. The component sequence and number
system shall be in accord with the "Vehicle Maintenance Reporting Standards" (VMRS), the
trucking industry standardization system of the American Trucking Associations (ATA).
