MIL-C-52973A(ME)
b.
- For lubrication and surface corrosion pro-
MIL-G-1094
tection of all automotive equipment operated
over the temperature range of minus 65 `F to
plus 225 F,
The compressor unit shall be assembled, run-in (broken-in), tested, and delivered
with these greases.
The bearings shall be cleaned before lubrication, because
military greases may- not be compatible with other greases.
A tag shall be
attached in a conspicuous place to indicate which military grease has been used.
3.15.6 Oil lubrication.
Unless otherwise specifed herein, all component
shall be filled to the operating level with military oils designated for use in
the temperature range specified herein.  A tag shall be attached in a conspicuous
location to indicate the temperature range grade of lubricant used, and frequency
A warning sign shall be attached to the frame of the compressor
of lubrication.
stating "Do not mix or interchange compressor lubricants with engine lubricants.
Use only MIL-L-17331 (2190 TEP) lubricant for compressor lubrication."
3.16 Fungus and moisture resistance.
The electrical circuitry, including all
components and connections shall be protected from the effects of moisture and
fungus growth by an overall treatment with a varnish conforming to MIL-V-173,
composition as specified in 3.16.1.  With 1 percent copper-8-qulnolinolate (by
weight) based on the nonvolatile content of the varnish, except:
Components of circuit elements that are inherently fungus and moisture
a.
resistant or which are heretically sealed need not be treated.
b.
Components or circuit elements whose functions will be adversely
affected by the varnish coating shall not be treated.
When used, the varnish shall be applied by spray, brush, or a combination of both
to give a minimum dry-film thickness of 0.001 to component or element surfaces
previously cleaned and prepared so that the surfaces are free from all foreign
matter which would interfere with the adherence or function of the varnish.
3.16.1 Composition,
Composition I shall be used unless composition II must be
used in order to comply with local air pollution regulations In the application
When composition II is used, the contractor shall provide
of the varnish
evidence to the Government that the use of composition II is required, and shall
certify that the composition II material complies with Rule 442 - South Coast Air
Quality Management District.
Permanently affixed attachment for
3.17 Slinging and tiedown provisions.
lifting and tying down the compressor unit shall be provided, and conform to
MIL-STD-209 for Type IV equipment, including the requirements for air transport.
Slinging and tiedown provisions shall be labeled "LIFT HERE" and "TIEDOWN"
respectively.
3.18 Transportability. The compressor unit shall withstand the stresses
encountered in shipment including those of the pendulum-impact test specified in
4.6.2.17 without deformation or damage which results in de.gradation of compressor
unit performance.
