6.8 Information figures. Figures 1 and 2 show a handtruck-mounted compressor and a
caster-mounted compressor, respectively, which have been found acceptable; however, the
figures are included for illustration only and are not intended to preclude the furnishing of other
designs which conform to this specification.
6.9 Cross-country terrain. Cross-country terrain shall consist of generally level or improved
open fields, broken ground, loose sand, or gravel road (see 4.5.2.15).
6.10 Publications. The contracting officer should include requirements for such data as
technical publications, instructional materials, illustrate parts lists, and contractor's maintenance
and operation manual to be furnished with each compressor.
6.11 Provisioning. The contracting officer should include provisioning requirements for
repair parts and special tools as necessary, and instructions on shipment of compressors. A
suggested paragraph is as follows:
"Shipment of compressors shall include repair parts, special tools, operational
instructions, and accessories, unless exceptions are provided elsewhere in the contract."
6.12 Classification of materials. The contracting officer shall require the contractor to
provide certification of the equipment meeting ANSI B19.1a and the ASME standards.
6.13 Noise limits. If the compressor is designed to meet the noise limit requirement, the
weight limit requirement may be exceeded. In view of this, the noise limit requirements
(see 3.7.3) must be thoroughly addressed.
a. Address what design aspects ( design or shielding) will be required to meet the noise
requirement and the cost of each design aspect. This information must be supplied
with engineering feasibility data in accordance with MIL-STD-1574.
b. List the calculated weight increase for each noise suppression design aspect. These
calculations must be provided for each design aspect.
Before an award is made, a decision on final noise and weight limits must be rendered in
conjunction with the Belvoir R&D Center, ATTN: STRBE-NC, Fort Belvoir,
Virginia 22060-5606.
6.14 Changes from previous issue. Asterisks (or vertical lines) are not used in this revision
to identify changes which respect to the previous issue due to the extensiveness of the changes.
