3.3.1 Boom, line, and block. With the boom parallel to the ground, the boom length
measured from the centerline of rotation to the center of the load hook, shall be not less than
eleven feet, and the overall length not more than eleven and one half feet. In the event of an
electrical failure means shall be incorporated to manually return the boom to the traveling
position. The boom assembly shall be adaptable to 11651259 to permit securing the boom during
vehicle travel operations. The wire ropes provided shall be corrosion resistant (tin or zinc coated)
cable conforming to type I, composition A, construction 7 x 19, of MIL-W-83420. Hoist cable to
be 1/4 inch dia. Boom cable to be 5/16 dia.
3.3.2 Location of crane. The crane assembly shall be mounted on the left hard rear wheel
well axle forwarded from the centerline of the rear axle of the M520 cargo vehicle.
3.3.3 Swing column. The height and width shall be not more than 45 inches and 23 inches
respectively.
3.3.4 Seals. All joints and openings requiring sealing shall be sealed against water and
contaminant entry, as well as lubricant leakage during operation storage. When installed, the
crane shall withstand all conditions of vehicle operations which includes 60% grade and 30% side
slopes, and there shall be no evidence of lubricant leakage.
3.3.5 Lubricants. Lubricants, type and grade to be used, shall be as specified in vehicle
lubrication chart.
3.3.6 Crane base. The crane base mounting dimensions shall be in accordance with
11651265. The swing column shall be bearing mounted to the crane base. The bearings shall be
of a size and type to withstand the axial loads exerted on the column under static and dynamic
conditions, while lifting the rated payloads.
3.3.7 Operator controls. The controls shall be dead man type or spring centered, normally
opened electrical switches, enclosed within a waterproof pendant assembly, and having 20 feet of
cable from the crane base. The cable when not in use shall be stowed on top of boom.
3.3.8 Power source. The crane shall be powered by the vehicle's 24 volt direct current
electrical system through an electrical supply cable attached to the center of the crane's base. The
cable length from the crane base shall be not less than 15.00 inches nor more than 18.50 inches
with plug compatible with 7722347. The complete electrical system which includes motors, brake
solenoids, cables, pendant assembly, and relay controls to provide a complete installation, shall be
furnished.
