PURPOSE
30.1  Purpose.  The purpose of the Function and Casualty test
is to determine whether or not the ammunition undergoing
acceptance can be expected to perform satisfactorily, under
conditions of field usage, in the service weapons for which it has
been designed.  Casualties and malfunctions can be caused either
by the ammunition or by the weapon in which it is fired, so that,
to a certain extent, these two factors are interdependent. A
faulty or poorly adjusted weapon can cause casualties in normal
ammunition, but if the weapon is in proper condition when the
casualties are encountered the fault lies with the ammunition.
