control ammunition, with the microphone being moved to a new
position for each burst fired, until the results comply with the
requirement. when firing the test cartridges, it is imperative
that the microphone remain in the exact position as was used to
obtain the specified level for the control cartridges.
The following procedure shall be
50.2 During firing.
followed:
An observer is stationed at the noise level meter.

b. The magazine containing the control cartridges
shall be inserted into the weapon and fired full automatic.
The noise levels are recorded.
c.
d. Without moving the microphones, the weapon bolt is
replaced with an M2 training bolt. The magazines containing the
test cartridges shall be loaded into the weapon and fired.
The noise levels are recorded.
e.
f. If the noise level at the right-handed gunner's
head position exceeds 135 decibels, the test shall be repeated
with the microphone located at the left handed gunner's head
position.
g. Fired cases shall be visually examined by the
technician for possible case casualties.
