HYDRODYNAMIC DEMONSTRATION TESTS
3.9
HABITABILITY. - It shall be demonstrated that the
3.9.1
helicopter is capable of remaining seaworthy for
a period of at least two hours in two foot waves with engines inopera-
tive. The status of airframe structure and water proofing for these
tests shall be representative of the production configuration. Doors
and ports shall be closed.
TAKEOFFS AND LANDINGS
3.9.2
WEIGHTS AND LOADINGS. - Weights for basic sheltered
3.9.2.1
water operation shall be the maximum for which
takeoff from sheltered Water is practicable.
CALM-WATER TAKEOFFS.
3.9.2.2
Tests shall be made in calm water, sea state 0,
(1)
to demonstrate freedom from objectionable por-
poising.
Tests shall be made in calm water to demonstrate
(2)
adequate" controllability with acceptable control
forces.
CALM-WATER LANDINGS. - Tests shall be made in
3.9.2.3
calm water to demonstrate freedom from objection-
able skipping and abrupt or uncontrollable changes in trim.
LATERAL-DIRECTIONAL STABILITY AND CONTROL. - Tests
3.9.2.4
shall be made in calm water to demonstrate freedom
from imdq.sate lateral or directional stability and control during
takeoffs and landings.
LOW-SPEED MANEUVERING. - Tests shall be made in
3.9.2.5
calm water to demonstrate capability to perform
simple turns to right and to left at low speeds (simulating approach
for water-rescue operations).
POWER-PLANT DEMONSTRATION
3.l0
