3.2.2 Brake.
3.2.2.1 Dielectric withstanding voltage. Brake solenoids shall
withstand 500 volts (rms) at a frequency of 60 Hz for one (1) minute
without disruptive discharge or deterioration. Testing shall be as
specified in 4.5.3.4.
3.2.2.2 Insulation resistance. Resistance between each brake sole-
noid lead to ground, at ambient temperature, shall be within the range of
3 megohms to infinity at 500 volts (dc). Testing shall be as specified in
4.5.3.4.
3.2.2.3 Direct current resistance. Resistance of the brake solenoid
circuit shall be within the range of 4.5 to 5.5 ohms. Testing shal be as
specified in 4.5.3.4.
3.2.2.4 Operation. The drive shall have the brake normally applied.
The brake shall release when the brake lever is actuated manually and it
shall return to the applied position by spring action, upon release of
the brake lever. The brake shall release when 18 volts (dc) is applied
to the brake solenoid circuit and return to the applied position when the
brake solenoid is deenergized. The brake solenoid circuit shall withstand
28 3 volts (dc) applied for a period of 15 seconds without damage.
Testing shall be as specified in the solenoid circuit tests in 4.5.3.4.
3.3 Performance characteristics.
3.3.1 Environmental.
*
3.3.1.1 Temperature. Drives shall be cpable of operating at high
and low temperatures as specified in Method 501, Procedure I (high tempera-
ture) and Method 502 (low temperature) of MIL-L-STD-810 except that the high
temperature shall be 165F. Testing shall be as specified in 4.4.
*
3.3.1.2 Humidity. Drives shall be capable of operating after ex-
posure to the humidity requirements specified in Method 507, procedure I
of MIL-STD-810. Testing shall be as specified in 4.4.
*
3.3.1.3 Temperature-altitude. Drives shall operate while exposed
to conditions specified in Method 504 of MIL-STD-810 simulating an
altitude of 607000 feet (temperature of -65F and barometric pressure
2.12 inches mercury) while energized with line to neutral voltage of
124 volts. Testing shall be as specified in 4.4.
