3.3.14.2 Engine Purging. The fuel return lines shall be purged of all
oil, preservative, MIL-P-46002, by turning the auxiliary fuel tank valve to
the diesel fuel position. The engine throttle shall be placed in the NO
injection setting. The engine shall be cranked by starter for a period of
time to remove all traces of red colored preservative oil from the plastic
return line.
CAUTION: DO NOT OPERATE STARTER FOR A PERIOD EXCEEDING
45 SECONDS. If preservative oil has not been purged,
the starter shall be rested for three minutes and
purging operation repeated.
The auxiliary fuel tank valve shall be placed in the
OFF position, the fuel line removed and reconnected to the outlet side
of primary fuel filter. The vehicle fuel supply system shall be
turned on, the air restrictor plate shall be removed and any
disassembled parts shall be reinstalled. The plastic fuel return line
shall be disconnected.
3.3.14.3 Air Intake System. Air intake tube at outlet side of air
cleaner shall be disconnected and one ounce of preservative oil conforming to
grade 1 of MIL-P-46002 shall be atomize sprayed into intake opening directed
toward the engine. Air intake tube to air cleaner shall be reconnected.
3.3.14.4 Exhaust System. Two ounces of preservative oil conforming to
grade 1 of MIL-P-46002 shall be atomize sprayed into exhaust pipe toward the
engine. Unpainted exterior surfaces of exhaust system, except manifold, shall
be coated with type P-19  preservative. Opening of exhaust pipe shall be
sealed with tape conforming to type IV, PPP-T-60. A warning tag, bearing the
information "OPENING OF EXHAUST PIPE SEALED - REMOVE SEAL BEFORE STARTING
ENGINE" shall be securely attached to the exhaust pipe.
3.3.14.5 Air Cleaner. Air cleaner element shall be removed and the
unpainted, uncoated, interior metal surfaces of the air cleaner shall be
atomize sprayed with oil conforming to grade 1 of MIL-P-46002. Element shall
be reinstalled and openings shall be sealed with tape conforming to type XV,
PPP-T-60, or covered with 6 mil polyethylene conforming to type II of L-P-378,
secured with PPP-T-60 type IV tape. A warning tag, bearing the information
"AIR CLEANER SEALED - REMOVE SEAL BEFORE STARTING ENGINE", shall be securely
attached to the air cleaner frame.
3.3.14.6 Engine Electrical Components. Alternator and starter shall have
openings sealed with tape conforming to type IV, PPP-T-60. A warning tag,
bearing the information "ALTERNATOR AND STARTER SEALED - REMOVE SEALS BEFORE
STARTING ENGINE", shall be securely attached to the alternator.
