MILITARY SPECIFICATION
ELECTRODES AND RODS - WELDING, BARE, SOLID
AND ALLOYED CORED, GENERAL SPECIFICATION FOR
This specification is approved for use by the Naval Sea Systems Command,
Department of the Navy, and is available for use by all Departments and
Agencies of the Department of Defense.
SCOPE
1.
1.1 Scope. This specification covers the general requirements for solid
bare and alloyed cored welding electrode and cut-length rods made from carbon
steel, low alloy steel, chromium-nickel steel, nickel base and copper base
alloys, aluminum, and aluminum alloys designed for use with the gas metal-arc
(GMA), gas tungsten-arc (GTA), and the submerged-arc welding (SAW) processes,
as applicable.
1.2 Classificatication. Electrodes and rods shall be furnished in the forms .
and sizes, specified in 1.2.1 and 1.2.2, and in the type specified in the
applicable detail specification (see 6.2.1). Alloy cored electrodes for sub-
merged arc welding shall be designated by a "C" suffix to the MIL type designa-
tion for the bare solid electrodes in the applicable detail specification.
