for stocking purpcses. The part number need not be inscribed on
the item even thcugh the applicable drawings for such items in-
dicate a part number. According to the type of part, this part num
ber shall be an Ordnance standard part number, a Federal stand-
ard stcck cataloging number, or a part number assigned by the
Frankford Arsenal Fire-Control Instrument Group.
3.12.1.3 Method of application.- Wherever possible, the mark-
ing shall be applied to a surface of the part by a stamping,
etching, engraving, casting, or molding. When these methods are
not possible or practicable, the marking shall be applied by
rubber stamp $ stencil, decalcomania transfer (in accordance with
Type II of Specification MIL-D-5548) , branding, vibro-pencil,
or by any other method suitable for the use intended.
