4.5.2.2.5 Timing. Feeders shall be examined for timing require-
ment (see 3.2.18) using the inspection equipment in accordance with
Drawing F273739. The gage shall be attached to the feeder and with the
feeder gear engaged to the shaft, the feeder gear shall be rotated
to engage the index pin into the feeder index hole. The gage timing
plunger shall then be depressed between the nearest gear teeth as
the index pin is released. With the feeder gear in this position the
gage shall indicate whether the timing requirement has been met.
4.5.2.2.6 Torque test. Feeders shall be examined for torque re-
quirement (see 3.2.19) using the inspection equipment in accordance with
Drawing D7273809. The feeder shall be held in a horizontal position,the
feeder gear fully engaged with the feeder shaft, and the feeder shaft
spring loosened when the inspection equipment is attached and the feeder
gear and shaft rotated.
4.5.3 Testing
4.5.3.1 Failure data. Unless otherwise specified herein, all
tests shall be conducted on a complete feeder. If test requirements
cited herein are not met, acceptance of feeders shall be deferred and
the contractor shall accomplish es applicable, the following actions:
Conduct a failure analysis study performing a dimensional
a.
physical and visual examination of the components which
are suspected to be the cause of failure or malfunction.
b. Evaluate and correct the applicable production processes
and procedures to prevent recurrence of the same defect(s)
in future production.
c.  Examine feeders, partially assembled feeders, and com-
ponents (including components end subassemblies at in-
process or final assembly) to insure that material
containing the same defect is purged from the invent-
ory and not presented to the Goverment for acceptance.
d.  Submit the results of the failure analysis and the
corrective actions taken to the Government for review
and approval prior to submitting a reconditioned lot
or reconditioned feeder for retest.
4.5.3.2.  Function testing. Each feeder shall be tested for
functioning (see 3.3.1) using the test method specified in 4.6.1.
Feeders failing to meet the requirements shell be cause for re-
jection.
