(c) Where special tools are required for installation and alignment of the gener-
ator set, one set of such tools shall be shipped with the first generator
set scheduled for installation on any one ship.
4.
QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS
4.1 Resonsibility for inspection.  Unless otherwise specified in the contract or
purchase order, the supplier is responsible for the performance of all inspection require-
ments as specified herein.  Except as otherwise specified in the contract or order, the
supplier may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspec-
tion requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government.  The Government
reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where
such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed
requirements.
4.1.1 Inspection system.  The supplier shall provide and maintain an inspection system
acceptable to the Government for supplies and services covered by this specification.  The
inspection system shall be in accordance with MIL-I-45208 (see 6.1 and 6.2) .
4,2 Performance tests.
4.2.1 Unit tests and test agenda.  All units shall be individually tested as specified

or part of the required unit tests after final assembly of the generator set, such method
of conducting unit tests is acceptable provided all necessary loading and instrumentation
facilities are available and tests are conducted in strict compliance with the applicable
requirements.
4.2.1.1 Test a ends.  A complete test agenda shall be submitted to the ordering activity
for review prior to t e start of any tests.  This agenda shall list all tests to be conducted
on the individual units and assembled generator sets.  Each test shall be identified by the
applicable specification showing paragraph number and title of test.  The agenda shall
indicate where each test is to be conducted.
4.2.2 Test reports.  Test results shall be recorded on test forms prepared by the
manufacturer.  Copies of the first unit test reports shall be furnished to the procuring
activity in quantities as specified in the contract.
4.3 Electrical tests.  Generators, excitation and voltage regulation systems shall be
tested in accordance with MIL-G-3124 and MIL-R-2729 and 4.3.1 through 4.3.3 herein.
4.3.1 Electromagnetic interference.
Electromagnetic interference tests are not required.
4.3.2 Short circuit.  The single phase and three phase short circuit tests shall be
conducted with the regulator in the circuit for a period of time as determined by

4.3.3 The first set of excitation and voltage regulation equipment components shall
be given type I vibration tests of MIL-STD-167.
4.4 First unit-- tests.  Test shall be conducted on the first unit.  First unit tests
need not be conducted if an engine, identical to the one being offered, has previously been
accepted for submarine service and meets the rating requirements specified in 3.2 and has
proven to be satisfactory in submarine service.  If the engine for which extension of first
unit testing is proposed, is not part for part identical to the engine previously tested,
the supplier shall submit for review to contracting officer a list of those parts which are
not identical.  Part number and nomenclature of both old and new parts and reasons for making
the change shall be included.  The Government reserves the right to require complete retesting
after review of the changes.  Tests shall be conducted as specified in 4.3.2. No  instruments
containing mercury shall be used at any time in connection with tests.
4.4.1 Test conditions.  The dynamometer load for the engine shall be such as to insure
that the engine identification plate output as specified in the contract or order can be
