REQUIREMENTS

First article.  When specified (see 6.2), the

contractor shall furnish sample units for first article inspection
and approval (see 4.3 and 6.3),
Materials and components.  Materials and compo-

nents shall conform to the applicable specifications and drawings as
listed or required herein.
Design and construction. The beaded handles

shall be constructed in accordance with NAVAIR Drawing 975AS121.
Stitching.  All the machine stitching shall be
3.3.1
accomplished with Stitch Type 301 of FED-STD-751.  There shall be
eight to ten stitches per inch.  Unless otherwise specified, the
ends of the stitching shall be backstitched by overlapping on
itself, a minimum of 1/2 inch.  Thread breaks shall be backstitched,
back of the break, a minimum of 1/2 inch.  The thread tension shall
be maintained so that there shall not be any loose or tight
stitching and the lock shall be embedded in the materials sewn
together.  All the thread ends shall be trimmed to a length of 1/4
to 3/8 inch.
Breaking strength of the lanyards.  When tested

as specified in 4.5.3, the lanyards breaking strength shall conform
to Table III.
Workmanship,  The beaded handle shall be uniform

in quality and free from defects and irregularities which could
adversely affect performance, reliability or durability.
