3.19.4.4 Telltales and overflows. Each of the four compartments shall be
provided with an overflow chute and mechanical telltales to indicate and
audibly warn when the level of' aggregate within the bin is insufficient for
mixer operation.
3.19.5 Walkways and ladders. Steel walkways shall be provided at the top
of the bin for access to bin compartments and screens for inspection, servicing,
and maintenance- The walkways shall be provided with safety-tread, hand rails,
and ladders.
3.19.6 Apron feeders. An apron feeder consisting of one or more continuous
steel apron feeders, drives, pulleys, frame support, discharge chute, and all
other components and accessories required for the operation of the feeder shall
be provided. The feeder shall receive material from the calibrated gates of
the storage bins and shall feed into the discharge chute. Where more than
one feeder is provided, they shall be interconnected with positive, mechanical
drives. The apron feeder shall be provided with line shaft, universal joints
and gearboxes, sprocket and chain, or other equally suitable drives. A quick-
change method to provide for not less than three feeder speeds shall be
furnished.
3.19.7 Revolution counter. A revolution counter shall be provided which
shall indicate the revolutions of the apron feeder pulley shaft. The indi-
cator shall show revolutions in increments of 1/10 and 1/100 of a revolution
The indicator shall be not less than a five-digit indicator. The indicator
shall be provided with a glass cover and a metal protective hood and shall
be permanently mounted so as to be visible to the operator at all times.
3.19.8 Discharge and test chutes. The apron feeder shall be provided with
a discharge arrangement which will allow the aggregate to be directed either
to a discharge chute which feeds into either the boot of the hot-aggregate
elevator or into test chutes which feed into sampling containers. Test chutes
shall feed material from each of the four bin compartments into separate
sampling containers. The diverter shall be movable from one position to the
other by means of a control lever or handle located in an unobstructed ex-
terior position.
3.19.9 Sampling containers. Four sampling containers, each with a capacity
of not less than 2 cubic feet of aggregate, shall be provided. The containers
shall be constructed of steel. Each container shall be equipped with wheels
or dollies supported by rails or platforms for positioning and removal. The
containers shall be permanently stamped or marked "No. l," "No. 2," "No. 3,"
and "No. 4," and each shall be provided with not less than two heavy-duty
handles securely attached to the container.
