5.3.1 Level A. Each complete mounting kit, preserved as specified in 5.2, shall be packed as a kit in a
snug-fitting box conforming to PPP-B-601, overseas type, style A. Box closure and strapping shall be as
specified therein except that the strapping shall be flat and the finish "B". The contents shall, as applicable
to prevent damage to the contents or box, be cushioned, blocked, braced and anchored in accordance with
the requirements of MIL-STD-1186.
5.3.2 Level C. Each complete mounting kit, preserved as specified in 5.2, shall be packed for level C
in the same manner as specified for level A in 5.3.2 except that the box shall be domestic type and the
strapping may be finish "A".
5.4 Marking. In addition to any special or identification markings required by the contract or purchase
order, each container shall be marked in accordance with MIL-STD-129.
6. NOTES
6.1 Intended use. The M1 CLAMS mounting kit permits the mounting of the CLAMS dispenser box
and attachment of CLAMS control box and control cable on the Ml series tank.
6.2 Ordering data. The basic acquisition documents should specify the following:
a.
Title, number, and date of this specification.
b.
Date of issue of DoDISS applicable to this contract and exceptions thereto.
c.
Time frame required for submission of first article kit (see 3.3).
d.
Data requirements.
e.
Government and contractor inspection responsibilities (see 4.1).
f.
Time frame required for submission of welding workmanship specimens (see 3.9.1.3).
g.
Degree of packing required (see 5.3).
h.
Number of units required for first article inspection.
i.
Time frame for submission of first article pack (see 5.1).
j.
Any special markings (see 5.4).
6.3 First article. When a first article inspection is required, the items should be a first produced
model. The first article should consist of one or more units. The contracting officer should include specific
instructions in acquisition documents regarding arrangements for examinations, tests, and approval of the
first article test results and disposition of the first article.
6.4 Vehicle performance. Installation of the mounting kit and CLAMS on M1 series vehicles may
degrade vehicle performance in the followings areas:
1. Electromagnetic interference (EMI).
2. Infrared signature.
3. Nuclear survivability.
