The equipment shall be capable of operating in any mode without

restriction as to having first been in any other particular mode,
except that the equipment must be switched to OFF prior to enter-
ing NORM or INS from the MAG SLV, FREE, or EM MAG modes. It
shall be possible to switch modes, including the BIT mode, with-
out damaging the equipment. There shall be detents which require
the CIU mode switch to be pulled out when switching from OFF to
BIT, from NORM to OFF, and from INS to MAG SLV.
