Para 3.4.1.1.3a
(cont)
(2)
Ground Alignment - This submode shall be ini-
tiated by placing the CIU MODE switch in the
NORM position while on the ground. Probi-
sions for setting latitude and longitude
manually shall be provided by the CIU.
(3)
In-Air Alignment - This submode shall be
initiated by placing the CIU MODE switch in
the NORM position while airborne with valid
doppler information available.This submode
may be selected automatically by the computer
*
if the aircraft becomes airborne prior to the
completion of ground or carrier alignment and
valid doppler information is available.
While performing in-air alignment, the com-
puter shall operate in a doppler-inertial
navigation mode. Refer to 3.4.1.1.3b(1).
During the early phases of in-air alignment,
the doppler data will be used predominately
for navigation, while later in the alignment,
the inertial data will assume more importance.
Loss of doppler data during alignment will
cause the computer to switch automatically
to free inertial navigation with resulting
navigation accuracy which is a function of
the phase of alignment at which doppler in-
formation was lost. In the event that dopp-
ler information is lost, the operator may
manually select air data navigation and back-
up attitude reference by switching to MAG SLV
or FREE.
b.
Navigate Submode - The equipment may operate in
one of four navigate submodes:doppler-inertial,
inertial, droppler, or air data. The best avail-
able mode of navigation will be selected automati- *
tally by the computer depending upon which naviga-
tion aids are aviable. This submode commences
upon satisfactory completion of one of the align-
ment submodes if the aircraft is in flight or
taxiing (Refer to 3.4.3.2b.) An indication
*
shall be provided on the CIU denoting which navi-
gate submode is available or is being implemented.
If a doppler system is not part of the aircraft
