MIL-N-85005A(AS)
Weight - The weight of the Battery Unit shall not
3.5.10.3
exceed 20 pounds.
Contents - The Battery Unit shall consist of the
3.5.10.4
following major functions:
Battery - The battery shall provide power for DPU
3.5.10.4.1
operation during momentary loss of aircraft power. The battery shall be
capable of providing 340 watts for at least 10 seconds with a forty-five
minute period of normal operation prior to the next discharge, and a
maximum of twelve such cycles in twelve hours.  Voltage of the battery
at no load shall be 72 V minimum and at rated load may reduce to 64 V.
Battery Charger - The unit shall contain a charger
3.5.10.4.2
to maintain the battery charge when power is ON.  The charger shall be
designed in accordance with requirements of the battery selected. The
battery charger shall contain environmental controls to prevent charging
at temperatures under 0C or over 50C, and other safety features as
required by the battery.
System Power Controls - The Battery Unit shall
3.5.10.4.3
accept mode select signals from the Mode Controller and provide power to
the other units of the system in accordance with the following:
Power Off - The Battery Unit shall provide no power.
3.5.10.4.3.1
When the selector switch is positioned to the OFF position from any
other position, an interlocking circuit shall be operated such that the
2 sustaining battery supplies (the Battery Unit and the PP-4964/ASN-84
Power Supply) will not attempt to maintain system operation.
Computer - Three phase 115V 400 Hz aircraft power
3.5.10.4.3.2
shall be applied to the NC and the SDC by external relays under Battery
Unit control.  The Battery Unit shall provide +28 VDC, 127 milliamps per
relay for these turn-on relays.
Align - When the Mode Selector Switch is turned to
3.5.10.4.3.3
ALIGN, the Battery Unit shall apply three phase 115V 400 Hz aircraft
power to the PP-4964/ASN-84 Power Supply by an external relay and the
Battery Unit shall force discrete outputs D1, D2, D3 and D5 in the logic
"1" state for 10 seconds.
Between the time 10 seconds and 16 seconds after selection of
ALIGN, the Battery Unit shall check input discretes D1, D2, D3 and D5;
if during this time interval any of these do not maintain logic "1"
state, the Battery Unit shall automatically shut the NC, SDC, and PP-4964
Power Supply OFF.
