Special Test Schedule - Selection of equipments for special
4.4.4.1
tests shall be made as follows:
(1)
On an early equipment after an engineering or material
change.
Whenever failure reports or other information indicate
(2)
that additional tests are required.  (This will be deter-
mined by the procuring activity.)
Scope of Tests - Special tests shall consist of such tests

as approved by the procuring activity.  Test procedures previously approved
for the preproduction tests shall be used where applicable. When not appli-
cable, the contractor shall prepare a test procedure and submit it to the
procuring activity for approval prior to conducting the tests.
Equipment Failure - Should a failure occur during either the

sampling, reliability assurance or special tests, the following action shall
be taken:
Determine the cause of failure.

Determine if the failure is an isolated case or design
defect.
Submit to the procuring activity for approval, proposed
(3)
corrective action intended to reduce the possibility of
the same failure(s) occurring in future tests. The con-
tractor may opt, at his own risk, to incorporate proposed
corrective actions in the equipment prior to receipt of
formal approval from the procuring activity.
Where practical, include a test in the individual tests
(4)
to check all equipment for this requirement until rea-
sonable assurance is obtained that the defect has been
satisfactorily corrected.
Should a failure occur during
parts testing, assembly tests,
and field testing, a detailed analysis shall
be performed with procuring
activity concurrence that a pattern failure
is present. When corrective
action has been established, the above steps
(3) and (4) shall be taken.
Failure data shall be recorded and categorized for failures
occurring within the contractor's facility. Recording, reporting, and cate-
gorizing of failures occurring in the field shall be the responsibility of
the procuring activity.
