MIL-P-17840C(SH)
4.6.4.4 Performance tests shall adequately demonstrate the ability of
the pump to handle its rated capacity of specified liquid at the maximum
temperature and minimum suction head, or maximum suction lift or varuum., as
applicable. For MHC pump, these tests shall be performed with the maximum
diameter impeller allowed for the size of the pump being tested.
4.6.4.5 Sufficient data shall be taken during the tests to prepare pump
characteristic curves as specified in 4.6.4.6.  The test data shall be corrected
to the specified operating conditions as to voltage, frequency, temperatures,
specific gravity, suction head or lift, and vacuum, as specified in the contract
or order; such conditions shall be clearly shown on the data sheets.  The data
sheets shall state the actual finished diameter of the pump impellers installed
on test.  Test data and curves shall be complete over the entire range of
capacities from shut-off to as near free delivery as possible.
4.6.4.6 The following test curves shall be supplied for the rated speed
conditions of the motor.  Head capacity and brake hp curves shall demonstrate
capacities from over-loaded at any point from shut-off to wide open.
(a)
Total head versus capacity.
(b)
Pump efficiency versus capacity.
(c)
Brake hp versus capacity.
(d)
Life versus capacity.
4.6.4.7  Test reports for the performance evaluation tests (see 4.6.4.1)
shall be compiled into a single document.  The document shall identify the pump
by manufacturer's serial numbers of pump and driver, the contract or order
number under which the tests were performed, the ship or class of ships for
which the pump is intended if known, and the letter and date of the test
procedure acceptance.  The test compilation document shall be distributed as
specified in 6.2.2.
4.6.4.8 Unless previously performed, one pump of each size shall also be
given additional tests using dynamometer or calibrated motor (motor manufacturer's
efficiency test may be used to identify motor calibration) to produce the
following curves:
(a) Gal/rein versus total dynamic head at constant rated r/rein for
various impeller diameters with superimposed constant efficiency
and constant brake hp curves at 1.00 specific gravity. The
number of impeller diameters shall be sufficient to develop a
family of curves.
(b) Determination of the maximum suction lift in feet versus gal/rein
at the maximum impeller diameter tested.
4.6.4.8.1 Two sets of data and curves based on the additional tests,
including description of the test set-up, shall be forwarded directly to the
acquisition agency, via the DCASMA, and shall not be included as a part of the
regular performance acceptance tests.
