Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), the
3.3.20.1 Purifier pump drive
pumps and the purifier shall be driven by a common motor.
3.3.21 Oil heaters.  When specified in the contract or order (see 6.2), oil
heaters shall be supplied with the purifiers.  Oil heaters shall heat oil from the
temperature specified in the contract or purchase order (see 6 2) , to the
purification temperature specified in 3.5 1, with the oil flowing through the
heater at the rated capacity of the feed pump
3.3.21.1 Oil heater type.  Oil heaters shall be in accordance with
MIL-H-17428 (steam type) or MIL-H-24299, type B (electric type) (see 6.2).
3.3.22 Motors.  Motors shall conform to MIL-M-17060 for alternating current
(at) motors and shall be of the following characteristics:

3.3.22.1 Direct current (dc) motors.  When specified in the contract or
order (see 6.2), dc motors shall be provided in accordance with MIL-M-17413.
3.3.22.2 Horsepower (hp) rating.  The hp rating of each motor shall be not
less than the sum of the maximum brake hp of the driven components under any
condition of service,  The actual motor rating shall be in accordance with Navy
standard hp sizes in accordance with MIL-M-17060 or .MIL-M-17413, as required. If
the maximum brake hp of the equipment is less than 2, and if there is a possi-
bility of an unpredictably high frictional load due to improper adjustment of
glands or to some other cause, then the maximum brake hp shall be multiplied by a
safety factor of [1 5 - (Max. BHP)/4] before selecting the next larger Navy
standard rating
3.3.23 Controllers.  When specified in the contract or order (see 6 2),
motor controllers shall be provided.  Motor controllers shall conform to
MIL-C-2212 and shall be of the following characteristics.
