REQUIREMENTS

3.1 General design.  The design and construction of the pump and reducer shell be the lightest and most
#
compact possible consistent with accessibility for maintenance and the replacement of wear parts.  The pump
shall be designed for a discharge pressure of 400 pounds per square Inch gage (p.s.i.g. ) even though the
operating pressure will be lower (see 4.3.4), The pump shall have a maximum capacity of 2.5 gallons per hour
(gph) at 90 psig discharge pressure, adjustable within 5 percent from 0.5 gph to 2.5 gph. The pump shell be
preset at the factory at 0.5 gph for a simplex pump and 1.0 gph for a duplex pump unless otherwise specified
(see 6.1).
3.2 Materiel.
3.2,1 Material, general, Materiel shall be as specified herein.  Material not definitely specified
shell be of the best quality used for the purpose in commercial practice, and shall be subject to review and
approval by the command or agency concerned.  Material shall be free from all defects and imperfections that
might adversely affect the serviceability of the finished product.
3.2.2 Substitution of material..  The use of materiels other than those indicated will be considered when
the contractor shows the necessity for the substitution and the material proposed is readily obtainable.
Substitution of materials will require the specific approval of the command or agency concerned in each case.
3.2,3 Material for pumps shall be in accordance with table I.
