3.24.1 Composition.  Composition I shall be used unless composition II must be
used in order to comply with local air pollution regulations in the application
of the varnish. When composition II is used, the contractor shall provide
evidence to the Government that the use of composition II is required.
3.25 Slinging attachments. Permanently affixed attachments that enable the
paver to be lifted in its normal travel position shall be provided. Each
attachment shall meet the requirements specified in MIL-STD-209, for type II
equipment, class 1 or 3 provisions. Slinging attachments may also be used as
tiedown attachments when such attachments meet the requirements specified in
3.26.
3.26 Equipment tiedown attachments. Permanently affixed attachments that
permit fastening the paver to the floor or deck of a transportation medium shall
be provided.  The tiedown attachments shall meet the requirements specified in
MIL-STD-209, for type II equipment, class 2 or 3 provisions.
3.27 Railroad transportation. When specified (see 6.2), the paver shall
withstand a rail impact test as specified in 4.5.2.10, without permanent
deformation to the paver. When commercial facilities are not available to
conduct a rail hump test as specified, testing may be conducted at a Government
facility. The paver, when prepared for transportation, shall meet the clearance
dimensions shown on figure 1 when loaded atop a 50-inch (1270 mm) high rail car
and be capable of negotiating a 15-degree ramp.
3.28 Highway transportation. The paving machine shall be highway
transportable by the Army's M172A1 semitrailer, lowbed; 25 ton, 4 wheel. See
figure 2 for dimensional limitations.
3.29 Identification marking. The paver shall be identified in accordance
with MIL-STD-130.  The marking shall be applied to the paver on plates
conforming to MIL-P-514, type I, style 1, composition C, of type I, grade A,
class 1 material. When specified (see 6.2), the identification plates will be
furnished by the contracting officer to be filled in by the manufacturer.
Plates shall be attached by screws, bolts, or rivets in a conspicuous protected
location.
3.30 Shipping data plate. The shipping data plate shall conform to MIL-P-514,
type III, composition C, of type I, grade A, class 1 material and, in addition,
shall show the silhouette of the paver in transport position indicating the
center of gravity locations in all three axes and the location and capacity of
the lifting and tiedown attachments, and the approach and departure clearance
angles. The plates shall be attached as specified in 3.29.
3.31 Control identification, information, safety, and warning plates. A
plate shall be furnished for each switch, gage, and controls and at points that
require special attention for safe and efficient operation of the paver. The
plates shall be labeled by lettering or other appropriate marking with information
such as function, the direction the control is to be moved, neutral position,
safety instructions, and other warnings or instructions as necessary. The plates
