6.2.2  Data requirements.  When this specification is used for an acquisition
which incorporates a DD Form 1423, contract data requirements list (CDRL), the
data requirements identified below shall be developed as specified by an approved
data item description (DD Form 1664) and delivered in accordance with the
approved CDRL incorporated into the contract.  When the provisions of DOD FAR
Supplement, Part 27, Sub-Part 27.410.6 are invoked and the DD Form 1423 is not
used, the data specified below shall be delivered by the contractor in accordance
with the contract or purchase order requirements. Deliverable data required by
this specification is cited in the following paragraphs:

6.3 First article. When a first article inspection is required, the items
should be a preproduction model. The first article should consist of one or
more units. The contracting officer should include specific instructions in
acquisition documents regarding arrangements for examinations, tests, and
approval of the first article test results and disposition of the first article.
6.4 Lubricants. MIL-STD-838, Lubrication of Military Equipment, prescribes
the policy for using specification-type products wherever possible and provides
specific requirements for potential use of non-standard proprietary products.
MIL-STD-838 is implemented by MIL-HDBK-113, Guide for the Selection of
Lubricantss, Fluids, Preservatives and Speciality Products for Use in Ground
Equipment Systems. The contracting officer should note that unless otherwise
authorized by the US Army Belvoir Research, Development, and Engineering Center
(ATTN STRBE-VF), Fort Belvoir, VA 22060-5606, lubricants, fluids, and greases
for ground equipment systems must be restricted to those listed under
MIL-HDBK-113, chapter 2.
