MIL-P-82530(OS)
Test and inspection reports on all tests specified herein shall be pre-
e.
pared and submitted to the procuring activity.
f. Designation of particular lots to be subjected to periodic production
tests
6.2.1 Additional samples.  Additional samples required because of failure
of any sample(s) to pass the prescribed inspections shall be prov ided and inspec -
ted at the expense of the supplier.
6 . 3 Preparation for delivery criteria.  Criteria for the use of the proper
level of packaging, packing, and marking shall be as specified in Section 5.
6. 4 Advisory handling instructions for initiation, booster. and main charges.
6.4.1 Preparation of initiation and booster charges involves the handling of
normal lead styphnate. which is a heat and friction sensitive explosiv e.  The lead
azide base charge is also friction sensitive.  Therefore, extreme care in all op-
erations using these materials should be taken, and quantit ies on hand should be
held to the minimum amount required to maintain continuous production. Special
car e shall be exercised to prevent the solvent contents from decreasing below
those specified in approv ed draw ings by adding additional soil'cnf ~~'bet: needed.
Any composition that becomes dry around the edges of the contain'?r should be
carefully wet down before any attempt is made to scrape the sides of the container,
If at any time the composition is spilled, it should be cleaned up immediately.
All personnel handling these compositions must wear approved clothing and must
work behind suitable barricades whenever possible.
6.4.2 All fixtures, equipment, benches, floors, etc., shall be pr operly
grounded to prevent accidental ignition due to static discharges, electrical arc-
ing, or sparking.
6.4.3 The clear lacquer and butyl acetate thinner that is mixed with the
lead styphnate confers 2 degree of resistance to explosion or ignition by impac
or friction, or ignition by a combination of impact and friction,  However, it is
emphasized that the resistance to explosion obtained by wetting in the prescribed
manner is of a lower order than that obtained by water wetting.  Butyl acetate
is flammable and can produce ignitable vapors.
6.4.4 All utensils and tools shall be kept clean and free of any dried
charge.  Empty dishes shall be placed in approved containers,
6.5 General safety p recautions.  The loading, assembly, and handling of
explosives, ammunition, ammunition components, fuzes, detonators, primers,
t r a c e r s , boosters, pyrotechnics, etc , and subassemblies thereof, involve
hazardous operations and therefore require suitable explosive safety precau-
tions.  Use of this specification shall not be construed as to relieve the contractor
or manufacturer of responsibility for the safety of his operations. The following
