3.3.1 Barrel and receiver assembly.  The barrel shall be assembled
t o the receiver in the position specified o n the applicable drawing
( s e e 3.3.18).
3 . 3 . 1 . 1  B a r r e l .  The barrel shall be free of cracks and seams.
T h e chromium plating shall be free of nodules, flaking, pits$ s t r i p p i n g ,
a n o d e burnst and evidence of etched base steel,  There shall be no
m a c h i n i n g  $ such as honing or grinding  $ after application of the chromium
p l a t i n g except as maybe required for obtaining the specified headspace
and dimensional requirements at the muzzle.  Burs and sharp edges shall
be removed from chamber edges.  S c r a t c h e s or marks$ occurring in a
chamber which otherwise meets the surface roughness requirements, shall
be permitted provided they do not cause marks-on the case of a high-
- p r e s s u r e test cartridge fired in the chamber.
3 . 3 . 1 . 2 C a r t r i d g e c l i p g u i d e .  T h e cartridge clip guide shall. be
f a s t e n e d securely to the receiver by the spring pin, The cartridge
c l i p guide shall position and retain the clip to allow recharging of the
magazine without removing the magazine from the rifLe.
3 . 3 . 1 . 3 C o n n e c t o r l o c k i n g p i n .  T h e connector locking pin shall
b e retained in the receiver by the flared retaining pin and shall move
t h r o u g h its full range of travel without binding.
3 . 3 . 2 Bedding of receiver and trigger housing. The receiver and
t h e trigger housing shall bear on the stock contact surfaces and shall
g r i p the stock securely.
3 . 3 . 3 Bolt assembly and operating rod action. With the firing
m e c h a n i s m  } stock, operating rod spring, and operating rod spring guide
d i s a s s e m b l e d from the rifle, and with the connector assembled  } the bolt
assembly with the operating rod connected shall move of its own weight
i n either direction through" its full range of travel in the receiver when
t h e axis of the rifle is manually changed from the horizontal to the
vertical position.
3 . 3 . 4 B o l t a s s e m b l y .  T h e bolt assembly$ with the operating rod
d i s c o n n e c t e d , s h a l l m o v e through its full range of travel In the receiver
w i t h o u t binding and when in the frilly locked (forward) position} t h e
b o t t o m surface of the right hand locking lug shall be capable of seating
o n the receiver only when light finger pressure is applied. Firing pin
p r o t r u s i o n and intrusion shall be as specified on the applicable drawing.
3 . 3 . 4 . 1 Bolt and roller assembly.  T h e bolt roller shall be retained
o n the bolt by the retaining ring and s h a l l rotate without binding on
the bolt shaft,
