3.2 First article inspection.  This specification contains
technical provisions for first article inspection.  Requirements
for the submission of first article samples by the contractor
shall be as specified in the contract and 4.4.
3.3 Materials.  Materials shall be in accordance with
applicable drawings, specifications and standards.
3.4 Parts.  The parts shall comply with all requirements
specified on drawings listed in paragraph 2.1 and associated
drawings, and with all requirements specified in applicable
specifications and standards.
3.5 Design and construction.  The M138 Rocket Management
Subsystem shall comply with all requirements specified on Drawing
(Dwg) 9324106, all associated drawings, and with all requirements
specified in applicable specifications and standards.  The RMS
shall be constructed to meet the requirements of MIL-E-5400, for
class 1A equipment.  Because of compact design of the DU power
supply, a maximum of five wires may be terminated at a terminal.
3.5.1 Interchangeability.  All components having the same
part number shall be dimensionally and functionally
interchangeable and in accordance with MIL-I-8500. Interchange-
ability must be maintained within the detail parts to the level of
replaceable items (provisioning level).
3.5.2 Performance characteristics.
3.5.2.1 Major compo nent characteristics.  The following
paragraphs specify the required performance characteristics and
functions of the major components of the RMS.
3.5.2.1.1 Display Unit/Rocket Management Subsystem (DU/RMS).
The DU/RMS shall be located in the pilot's compartment and shall
contain all controls and displays needed to select and control
aerial rockets.
3.5.2.1.1.1 Controls and displays.  All external controls and
displays shall be mounted on the panel face.
3.5.2.1.1.2 Rocket-type selection.  The DU/RMS shall have
provisions to select from, four rocket launchers warhead/fuze
type(s) consisting of one, two, three, four or five warhead/fuze
type(s) selected from the list in Table I.  Each launcher may be
loaded with rockets consisting of one to three different
warhead/fuze types.  In all loading configurations, the loading
shall be symmetrical and firing of rockets shall occur as defined
in 3.5.2.1.1.8 to maintain the weight and balance of the
helicopter and rocket pods.
