3.
REQUIREMENTS
3.1 Description.  Each sling shall be a continuous length of manila rope
or nylon webbing with its end spliced together to form a loop.
3.2 First article.  When specified (see 6.2), a sample shall be subjected
to first article inspection (see 4.3 and 6.3).
3.3 Materials.  Materials shall be as specified herein. Materials not
specified shall be selected by the contractor and shall be subject to all
provisions of this specification (see 6.4).
3.3.1 Fiber rope.  The fiber rope shall conform to T-R-605, type M,
class 2, and shall be mildew resistant treated in accordance with T-T-616.
3.3.2 Nylon webbing.  The nylon webbing sling shall be fabricated from con-
tinuous-filament heat and light resistant nylon fiber.  The nylon shall be a
long chain polymer made of hexamethylene diamine and adipic acid, or a long
chain polymer of epsilon amino caproic acid.  Mixtures of nylon fiber types
shall not be employed in any one sling.
3.4 Construction.
3.4.1 Sling charactacristics.  Fiber rope slings shall conform to table I
and the nylon webbing slings shall conform to table II.
