Acceptance tests shall consist of:
4.3 Acceptance tests.
Individual tests
a.
Sampling plans and tests
b.
4.3.1 Individual tests.  Each seat shall be subjected to the examination
of product test as described under 4.4.
4.3.2 Sampling plans and tests.  Sample seats shall be selected at
random from each lot on the same material order, in the quantities specified
below, and subjected to all of the tests in 4.4, except that proof loads
shall be applied instead of ultimate loads:
a. Two seats from each lot of 200 or fraction thereof.
Three seats from each lot of 500 or fraction thereof.
b.
One seat from each additional 500 or fraction thereof above 500.
c.
4.3.2.1 Rejection and retest.  When one or more items from a lot fail
the specified tests, this is cause for rejection of the lot.  Before resub-
mitting the lot, the contractor shall fully explain to the inspector both
the corrections made and the cause of previous rejections.
4.4 Test methods.
4.4.1 Examination of product.  Each seat shall be carefully examined to
determine conformance to this specification and pertinent drawings with
respect to design, standard parts, finish, adjustments, dimensions, workman-
ship, material, weight and marking.
4.4.2 Functional tests.  The sample seat shall be mounted in a suitable
jig or fixture by utilizing the normal tie-down provisions. The seat shall
then be subjected to and required to withstand without failure the following
loads .  The attitude of the seat during the test may be changed to facilitate
testing if the direction of the loads with respect to the seat remains the
same. The loads may be applied by means of hydraulic or pneumatic press,
jacks, shot bags, or any other suitable method.
4.4.2.1 Seat bottom.  The seat bottom of each type of seat shall with-
stand the loads as tabulated below.  The loads shall be acting downward on
and uniformly distributed over the seat bottom.  If shot bags or other high
density materials are used to load the type I and type II seats simultaneously,
care shall be taken to avoid bridging by placing bags or materials in
separate piles to represent an occupant.
