The other side of the sheet shall contain the following:
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Save the parachute and cores.
2. The matches must be ignited by striking along the striker
strips.
3. The fire starting pads can be ignited by striking along the
striker strips or they can be lit with a match.
4. The matches are not water resistant.
Keep them dry.
5. Thread for needles can be obtained from inner cord of
parachute suspension line.
*3.3  Preparation for assembly.  The contents of the survival kit shall be
prepared for assembly as described in 3.3.1 through 3.3.4.
*3.3.1  Fish hooks.  The fish hooks, needles and wire shall be attached to a
base in the inner container in such a manner as to render them incapable of
harming any other components, yet neatly accessible.
*3.3.2  Matches.  Five matches and one striker strip shall be packed together
in aluminum foil conforming to MIL-A-148 with a thickness of .005 inch +.0005
inches.  The heads of adjoining matches shall be placed at opposite ends of
the package.  Each package shall be wrapped so that two thicknesses of the
foil covers all portions of the five matches.
*3.3.3  Needles.  The two needles shall be placed along the sides of the knife
blades in such a manner that the points and heads do not protrude beyond the
ends of the knife.  A strip of tape conforming to PPP-T-60, type 3, class 2,
shall be placed around each end of the knife in such a manner that the points
and heads are covered and secured to the knife by the strip of tape.
*3.3.4  Fire starting pads.  The pads shall be wrapped separately in a
aluminum foil conforming to MIL-A-148 with a thickness of 0.0015 inches, plus
or minus 0.0005 inch.  Each pad shall be wrapped so that two thicknesses of
the foil cover all portions of the pad.  Each pad shall be sealed with an
encircling strip of tape conforming to PPP-T-60, type 3, class E.
*3.4  Assembly.  The components listed in Table I shall be assembled in the
inner container in a manner permitting insertion of the completely assembled
container into the outer container.  The knife shall be placed on a side with
the folded blades toward the center of the package.  The compass shall be
placed with the face of the compass towards the center of the package.  Prior
to inserting the inner container in the outer container, the outer container
shall be turned so the seams are on the inside.  After inserting the inner
container, the flaps of the outer container shall be secured with a single row
or stitch type 301 (see Figure 1) approximately 6 stitches per inch to effect
