*  3.13.3 Landing supports, class A. When specified (see 6.2), landing supports shall be
furnished in lieu of landing gear. Landing supports shall consist of two legs of the gravity
telescopic type. Each leg shall be equipped with a steel landing pad not less than 10 inches
square. Minimum ground clearance with landing supports retracted shall be not less than the
semitrailer frame ground clearance. Landing supports shall have a range of adjustment sufficient
to vary the height of the upper fifth wheel plate from 47 inches to not less than 53 inches from
the ground for size 15, 20, and 25 semitrailers and from 52 inches to not less than 58 inches from
the ground for size 35, 50, 60 and 75 semitrailers. Landing support adjustment shall be in not
more than 2 inch increments.
*  3.14 Skid blocks, class B. On class B folding gooseneck semitrailers, skid blocks shall be
provided in lieu of landing gear. Skid blocks shall be permanently attached under the front end
of the platform. Skid blocks shall be of adequate size to prevent the loaded semitrailer from
sinking into soft ground. With the semitrailer platform in a level position with load, the
minimum ground clearance under the skid blocks shall be not less than the semitrailer frame
ground clearance, minus 1/2 inch.
3.15 Loading ramps. When specified (see 6.2), two loading ramps of all metal construction,
complete with hooks and handles, shall be provided. The ramps, when properly blocked at the
midpoint, shall be capable of withstanding an equally applied portion of the full semitrailer
payload without permanent deformation. Ramps shall be of a length to provide a ramping angle
of not less than 12 degrees and not more than 15 degrees.
*  3.15.1 Fold up loading ramps. When specified (see 6.2), two permanently attached, fold up,
all metal loading ramps shall be furnished. The ramps shall be hinged to the rear of the
semitrailer. The ramps shall be capable of sliding from the extreme outside edges of the
semitrailer to within 12 inches of the centerline of the semitrailer while still hinged and attached.
The ramps shall be provided with devices to secure them in travel position. The ramps, when
properly blocked at the midpoint, shall be capable of withstanding an equally applied portion of
the full semitrailer payload without permanent deformation. Ramps shall be of a length to
provide a ramping angle of not less than 12 degrees and not more than 15 degrees.
*  3.16 Lubrication system. All moving parts normally requiring lubrication shall be provided
with accessible pressure grease fittings. Pressure type lubrication fittings shall be readily
accessible for servicing and shall conform to SAE J534. Pressure relief fittings shall be used
where high pressure lubricating equipment could cause damage to seals.
*  3.17 Lighting. All lights and reflectors shall be protected from operational hazards by
mounting in recessed or otherwise guarded locations. The brake lights shall override the
four-way emergency flasher or the two systems shall be independent of each other. Lights and
reflectors shall not be mounted on vertical surfaces of the rub rail (unless recessed and fully
