Maintainability. Maintenance operations required during reliability testing shall be
accomplished in accordance with the maintenance ratio specified in 3.3.5.2.
Nonconformance to 3.3.5.2 shall constitute failure of this test.
4.5.2.5 Prime mover test. When a prime mover is furnished with the dump semitrailer
(see 3.1.2 and 6.2), inspect the prime mover in accordance with the applicable prime mover
specification and this semitrailer specification.
4.5.2.6 Five mile production performance and operation test. Tow each production
semitrailer, without load, a distance of not less than 5 miles over hard surfaced roads with the
lights on. Operate the semitrailer hoist system to maximum dump two times. Maneuver and
uncouple and park the semitrailer, including lowering of the front supports. Failure of the
semitrailer to conform to all the requirements in section 3 shall constitute failure of this test.
4.5.2.7 Lifting attachment test. When lifting attachments are furnished, lift the semitrailer
and hold in suspension for at least 3 minutes in its normal travel position with the loads imposed
on the lifting attachments as specified in 3.2.5. Failure or permanent deformation of any
attachment or any member of the semitrailer, or nonconformance to 3.2.5 shall constitute failure
of this test.
4.5.2.8 Tiedown attachment test. When tiedown attachments are furnished, the static load as
specified in 3.2.6 for tiedown attachments shall be applied to the semitrailer. Failure or
permanent deformation of any attachment or any member of the semitrailer, or nonconformance
to 3.2.6 shall constitute failure of this test.
4.5.2.9 Electromagnetic interference. The first article model when equipped with an
auxiliary engine, shall be tested to determine conformance with 3.2.1. The contractor shall
furnish the contracting officer the test report. Disapproval of the report shall constitute failure of
this test.
4.6 Inspection of packaging for delivery. The preservation and packing shall be examined to
determine compliance with the Quality Assurance Provisions of MIL-STD-281. The marking
shall be examined to determine compliance with the referenced document. Any marking that is
missing, illegible, incorrect, or incomplete shall be cause for rejection.
5. PACKAGING FOR DELIVERY
5.1 Vehicle manufacturer's processing. Unless otherwise specified herein, the semitrailers
shall be processed for shipment from the manufacturer's plant to initial receiving activity in
accordance with the manufacturer's standard commercial practice.
5.1.1 Marking. The statement "NOT PROCESSED FOR STORAGE" shall be stenciled on
a plywood or particle board of appropriate length and width. Lettering shall not be less than
3/4-inch high and normally shall be visible at a distance of 20 feet. The board shall be wired or
secured to the front of the semitrailer.
