coated with type P-1 preservative.  Removed chains shall be coiled, and
the coil shall be secured with soft, annealed wire and wrapped with
barrier material conforming to MIL-B-121, type I, grade A, class 2,
secured with tape conforming to PPP-T-60, class 1.  Sprockets and
other unprotected surfaces of the drives shall be coated with type P-1
preservative.
5.2.1.7.2 Enclosed chains.  Enclosed chains and chain housings shall
be preserved as specified in 5.2.1.6.2 for enclosed gears and gear housings.
5.2.1.8 Shafts and universal joints.  Exposed surfaces of shafts and
universal joints shall be coated with type P-1 preservative.
5.2.1.9 Drive belts and pulleys. Drive belts shall be removed or
released from tension.  Removed belts shall be preserved in accord-
ance with MIL-P-116, method IC-1,  Unpainted pulley grooves shall be
coated with primer conforming to TT-P-664.
5.2.1.10 Conveyor belts and fasteners.  Metal belt fasteners shall
be coated with varnish conforming to MIL-V-1174 or TT-V-121. The
belt shall be released from tension.  When the feed conveyor is section-
alized, the belt shall be removed and compactly rolled, and the roll
shall be secured with strapping conforming to QQ-S-781, type I, class B,
size as applicable.  The straps shall be placed circumferentially on
the roll and the straps tensioned so as not to damage the belt.
5.2,1.11.1 Openings.  Openings into the motors, starters, switches,
controls, junction boxes, power receptacles, lamps, and ends of the
intervehicular cable, auxiliary power cable, and main feeder cables
shall be sealed with tape conforming to PPP-T-60, class 1.
5.2.1.11.2 Cable reels.  Unpainted exterior metal surfaces of the
cable reels shall be coated with type P-1 preservative.  The cables
shall be wound on their reels and secured.
5.2.1.11.3 Ground-rod assemblies, clamps and wires. The ground-
rod assemblies, clamps and wires shall be placed in the container pro-
vided.
5.2.1.12 Technical publications.  Technical publications shall
be preserved in accordance with MIL-P-116, method IC-1, and placed
in the toolbox.
