3.1.1.1.3 Special markings. When specified by the procuring activity (see 6.2), special
markings shall be applied to the item(s).
3.1.1.2 Rustproofing. When specified (see 6.2), model A, B and C semitrailer chassis shall
be rustproofed in accordance with MIL-STD-1223.
3.1.1.3 Wood treatment. When specified (see 6.2), wood shall be treated in accordance
with the requirements of MIL-STD-1223.
3.1.1.4 Lifting and tying down attachments. The semitrailer chassis shall be provided with
lifting and tying down attachments conforming to MIL-STD-209, type III. Attachments shall be
designed for lifting and tying down the chassis in an empty configuration.
3.2.1 Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. The vehicle and furnished accessories shall
comply with all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards In effect on the date of manufacture.
3.2 General design.
3.2.2 Interchangeability and compatibility. Dimensions and relative positions of all
assembled mating parts of units produced by the contractor shall conform to this specification
and shall insure the following:
(a) Interchangeability of all semitrailer chassis and containers
(b) Functional compatibility and proper coupling between each semitrailer chassis and
container(s)
3.2.3 Dimensions, weights and ratings. Dimensions, weights and ratings of the semitrailer
chassis and containers shall conform to 3.2.3.1 and 3.2.3.2 and shall be as specified herein.
Component and vehicular ratings shall not be raised to meet the requirements of this
specification.
3.2.3.1 Semitrailer chassis. Model A, B, and C semitrailer chassis shall have the
dimensions, weights and ratings specified in table I.
