4.4.3 Testing.  Testing is described in the First Article and Quality
Conformance Inspection Forms.
4.4.3.1 Check test for deterioration of detonators/explosive leads
(listed below).  If the total time between original acceptance of any lot and
the assembly of that lot into the S&A exceeds two years, or if the detonators
or explosive leads have been subjected to adverse conditions, however brief,
at any time since previous tests, the detonator or explosive lead lot shall be
subjected to and must satisfactorily pass the check test for deterioration
specified in Military Specifications listed below immediately before they are
assembled into the S&A.  This test shall be performed by the contractor, on
detonators or explosive leads selected by the Government inspector, at the
facility assembling the detonators or explosive leads into the S&A. The test
shall be conducted at Government expense without cost to the contractor who
assembled the detonators/explosive leads or the contractor assembling the
detonators/explosive leads into the S&A and shall not constitute a basis for
rejection against either contractor except where deterioration has occurred as
a direct result of carelessness in handling, storage, etc., permitted while
the detonator or explosive lead lot was under the responsibility of either
contractor.  The Contracting Officer shall arrange to have the contractor
reimbursed for the expense incurred in the performance of check tests.  In the
check test for deterioration of the M100 Detonator, the lead cup functioning
requirement of MIL-D-48120 shall be omitted.

4.4.4  Inspection equipment.  The inspection equipment required to perform
the examinations and tests prescribed herein is described in the Paragraph
Reference/Inspection Method column in the forms starting with paragraph
4.4.2.1.  The contractor shall submit for approval inspection equipment
designs in accordance with the terms of the contract. See Section 6 of
MIL-A-48078 and 6.4 herein.
4.5 Test methods and procedures.
PRECAUTION - This specification covers sampling and testing of explosive
materials which are potentially hazardous to personnel.
Accordingly, it is emphasized that all applicable safety rules,
regulations and procedures must be followed in handling and
processing these materials.
4.5.1 Salt spray test.  The applicable parts shall be tested in
accordance with ASTM-B-117 using a 5% salt solution and with the requirements
specified on the applicable drawings and. specifications.  The rejection
criteria shall be as specified in the applicable specifications.  Assemblies
subjected to this test shall not be returned to the lot.
