mounting or dismounting. The gyroscopic case shall be hermetically sealed. A
combination of hermetical sealing techniques shall be utilized to meet the
requirements of 3.5.2.5.2.
3.5.2.5.1 Filling Medium - The filling medium shall be at least 98 percent
pure, free from dust particles, and shall contain not more than .006 milligram
of water vapor per liter (dewpoint -65C) at the filling pressure. The filling
medium shall be 95 percent helium and 5 percent carbon dioxide.
3.5.2.5.2 Sealing - The hermetic seal shall not be dependent upon materials
that will be affected by any conditions to which the unit may be subjected. The
leak rate shall not exceed 10-5 std cc/second at an absolute pressure of 12 to
14.7 pounds per square inch.
3.5.2.6 Mounting - The mounting of the Displacement Gyroscope assembly
shall be as specified herein and shall be such that the displacement reference
gyro shall not deflect by more than plus or minus .1 degree in roll, pitch, or
azimuth as a result of accelerations or any vibrations between O and 18 Hz with
a double amplitude of .020 inch. The torsional resonant frequency shall be
greater than 18 Hz. The mounting shall be of the "quick disconnect or removal"
design in acordance with Figure 12.
3.5.3 Electronic Control Amplifier - The Electronic Control Amplifier shall
be of interchangeable plug-in type modules with maximum efficiency in the use of
subassemblies.
3.5.3.1 Function - The Electronic Control Amplifier shall perform all
functions necessary to interface with the Displacement Gyroscope, Compass
Transmitter or Detector, and SOARS Controller. The Electronic Control Amplifier
shall provide Ditch, roll, heading, turn rate and BITE.
3.5.3.2 Weight - The weight of the Elctronic Control Amplifier shall not
exceed 14.5 pounds.
3.5.3.3 Form Factor - The Electronic Control Amplifier assembly shall have
a volume not exceeding 400 cubic inches. The form factor shall conform to
Figure 9.
3.5.3.4 Contents - The Electronic Control Amplifier shall include the
assemblies required to provide the following functions:

Solid state electronic heading couplers
2.
Displacement Gyroscope initialization controls
3.
Outer Roll servo controls
4.
Pitch and Roll erection controls
5.
Compass Transmitter or Detector excitation and signal
processing
6.
SOARS Compensator interface
7.
Annunciator drive to the Controller
8.
Amplifier data processor
9.
Turn Rate output
